Contemporary Concerts Tübingen
JACK Quartet and Florence Millet
Pianist Florence Millet and the JACK Quartet will perform in Hall One at the Westspitze for the first time as part of the Contemporary Concerts Tübingen series. To mark the 100th anniversary of Morton Feldman's birth, they will present four special works by Bunita Marcus and Feldman.
At the heart of the program is Feldman's late masterpiece , Piano and String Quartet (1985), which the composer, who died in 1987, described as "a favorite piece in my whole life," adding, "It has everything I ever wanted." This 80-minute piano quintet fills the entire second half of the concert. In the first half, Feldman's short duo, Vertical Thoughts 2 (1963), for violin and piano, is framed by two pieces by his student Bunita Marcus, Sugar Cubes (1996) for piano and Untrammeled Thought (1980) for cello and piano.
Program:
Bunita Marcus, Sugar Cubes (1996) for piano
Morton Feldman, Vertical Thoughts 2 (1963) for violin and piano

Waldfrieden Sculpture Park
JACK Quartet and Florence Millet
To mark the 100th birthday of the American composer Morton Feldman, the JACK Quartet and pianist Florence Millet will perform at the Waldrieden Sculpture Park.
Piano and String Quartet (1985) is a late masterpiece of the American avant-garde. The work unfolds a quiet, meditative sound world of delicate interactions between piano and strings, in which every note counts. Originally dedicated to the pianist Aki Takahashi and the Kronos Quartet, the work’s slow, subtly varying structures lead listeners into an intimate, almost contemplative soundscape.
