Keir GoGwilt

Keir GoGwilt is a violinist, musicologist, and composer whose work combines historical research and collaborative experimentation. Ongoing projects include his improvising duo with bassist Kyle Motl and his recompositions of renaissance and medieval music with Johnny Chang on Another Timbre. Another ongoing project, Ortiz the Musician, re-imagines early music in 16th-century Mexico and Cuba, in collaboration with Wilfrido Terrazas, Alec Goldfarb, Kyle Motl, and the American Modern Opera Company (AMOC).

GoGwilt has worked closely with composers including Matthew Aucoin, Carolyn Chen, and Celeste Oram. He plays in Mark Dresser’s septet and has worked extensively with conductor Steve Schick and choreographer Bobbi Jene Smith. GoGwilt earned his PhD from UC San Diego in 2022 and was awarded the Chancellor's Dissertation Medal. His research on histories and philosophies of performance, pedagogy, and embodiment has been published in Current Musicology, Naxos Musicology, and the Orpheus Institute Series.
